Design Thursday #6
A weekly recap of everything you need to know about tools, events, guidelines and design in general.
Figma’s Little Big Updates
Figma hosted their Little Big Update stream that included 32 quality of life improvements for prototyping, typography, images, components and file organization.
My personal favorites are sticky prototype scrolling and updating single component instances.
Discover all the new features at Figma’s What’s New page.
Phosphor icons 2.0
A brand-new version of Phosphor icons was released last week. It includes 201 new icons, multiple improvements and a refreshed website.
LottieDocs
Always wanted to know how Lottie works and be able to understand the file format. Look no further, LottieDocs is here to help you out. It’s a comprehensive documentation site made by LottieFiles to explain everything about Lottie.
Too lazy to click around? There’s also a walkthrough video available.
iOS 16.4
Apple released the latest iOS version this week, which comes with exciting updates for Web apps. The biggest update, you can now receive notifications for web apps added to your Home Screen. Oh yeah, there are also 21 new emoji.
Relay supports Figma component properties
Google’s Material Design team launched Relay in alpha last year. It’s their tool to improve design handoff and convert your Figma components directly to code. They now added support for component properties, making it even more powerful.
Nokia Pure
▄ ▄ ▄ ▄▄▄ ▄▄▄ ▄ ▄ ▄, this is Morse code used by Nokia for their famous SMS sound, which actually just spells out SMS. Now that I hopefully brought back some great memories, time to show something design related. Nokia shared their new design system “Nokia Pure”, as the name suggests, it's very minimal and includes some lovely design details.
Webflow Wrapping
A small, but great Webflow improvement. You can now wrap an element in a div or link block without having to mess around with the layer panel. This will definitely save some time!
Spline AI
Spline announced their AI tool to generate 3D objects, animations and textures by using prompts. This might be a great way to get into 3D design or just get some help during your design process.
Video of the week
This was not included in last Design Thursday, so let’s make it this week’s video of the week. Adobe’s announcement trailer for their AI-powered tool Firefly.
