Design Thursday #77
A weekly recap of everything you need to know about tools, events, guidelines and design in general.
Happening right now: Inclusive Design 24
Inclusive Design 24's yearly 24-hour-long accessibility event is taking place right now. You can livestream it on YouTube or rewatch all of the sessions on their channel.

Timeline animations in Spline
Spline’s animation tools have got a big update with the new timeline. You can now animate with keyframes to give you even greater control over your 3D animations. It includes controls for keyframes and curves. You can still use events with the timeline, export videos, and there is a new toolbar UI. All of this is now available in beta.
LottieCreator v1
LottieFiles released the first official v1 version of LottieCreator, their animation tools that you can use instead of After Effects. Here’s a short list of new features before we dive into the big update:
- New layer effects: blend modes
- Spring Curve plugin: a new plugin that lets you create physics-based animations with tension, friction, and mass.
- Improved text tool that lets you insert text as vectors.
Now for the big update: State Machines. Similar to Rive, you can now create state-based animations in LottieCreator. These states can be added using markers in Animate mode. You can add inputs like booleans, numbers, strings, or events to dynamically change your animation. Map interactions to trigger changes like a click or hover.
You can already implement and use state machines today in Webflow and Framer. New options have been added in their UIs to support them.
Important: for state machines to work, you need to export as a .lottie file and not just the .json file which was originally used for Lottie animations.
Figma MCP
Three new beta features have been added to Figma MCP:
- Remote access: you can now use more tools to use Figma MCP, so you no longer need the desktop app.
- Use Make as context: Figma Make prototypes can now be used as context when building your actual product.
- Code Connect UI: You previously had to use a terminal to connect your code to Figma components, but with a new UI, it’s easier than ever to connect them. Providing a better context for Figma MCP.
Figma Sites
Figma Sites got a few new updates, including:
- Custom fonts
- Accessibility improvements: select HTML tags and apply ARIA properties.
- Add a password to your site
- Built-in Cookie Banners
- Better links: you can now add them via a shortcut and add back or scroll to links.
Burp by LottieLab
Remember Magic Animator AI from LottieLab? They now have a new tool called Burp. It’s a new AI motion editor that should let you create anything with just a prompt.
Recraft Chat Mode
Recraft will soon add Chat Mode, an assistant-like interface to interact with everything on your canvas. So you can iterate faster, get smart suggestions, and brainstorm together with Chat.
Lightbox Effect & Text Search Plugin in Framer
Framer added a new built-in Lightbox Effect to make it easier to look at images separate from the rest of your website content. It even works with CMS items, so you can simply add it in blog posts, for example.
Text Search plugin
There is also a new Text Search plugin created to either search any text content in your Framer project, but also to show off the capabilities of the new Navigation API that gives access to everything in your project.

Sync multiple Figma variables to Webflow
Webflow’s Figma to Webflow plugin and Webflow app got a new update that lets you sync multiple variable collections from Figma. There are some options to select collections, groups, or modes. It will automatically handle renaming, you can sync variable aliases, and more typography styles. This should make it a lot easier to bring over your design system to Webflow.

Penpot 2.10
A new version of Penpot has been released with its biggest update: variants. Like Figma or other UI builders, Penpot now supports variants for components. Instead of having to create multiple components, you can now create multiple versions of a single component.
There is also a Tokens update, adding support for 6 new tokens: number, font family, font weight, letter spacing, text case, and text decoration. A great way to add typography token support.
Penpot Fest 2025
Also happening at Penpot, it's yearly conference, Penpot Fest. It's taking place from 8-10 October in Madrid.
Liquid Glass in Play
Play added Liquid Glass support a while ago in the TestFlight beta, but it’s now available for everyone to use in version 3.19. This means you can freely explore glass effects without having to write a single line of code. All on your device of choice. Keep in mind you must be running iOS 26 or macOS 26 to use the glass effects.
