Design Thursday #71
A weekly recap of everything you need to know about tools, events, guidelines and design in general.
Penpot 2.9
The latest version of Penpot has some token improvements, including a new token type: Typography tokens. It doesn’t include all typography tokens yet, as font family will be coming in a next update. You can also import multiple token files at once via a .zip. The 2.9 update also includes some smaller improvements, like better text resizing, a redesigned sidebar, and a notification indicator.
HD video mode in Midjourney
Midjourney released an HD mode for video creating, which reduces small pixel scale artifacts to create smoother motion. While increasing the quality, this also increases the cost as it’s about 3.2x more expensive than regular video, so keep that in mind before you start creating.

Zoom transitions in Play
Play now supports zoom transitions to smoothly go from an overview to a detail while zooming on the key element like an image that’s displayed in both views.
This also brings a small change to how you exit prototypes. The gesture changed from a two-finger long press to a three-finger swipe down.

Android Assets and Generators in Stark
Stark released their Android library with over 70 checks that will lint your code in real time, integrate with testing, and show your results on your dashboard.
On top of that, it also includes 2 generators for Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) and Accessibility Statements. Based on your reports, you can also update them automatically from Compliance Center.
Framer on-page editing
In Framer’s latest update, you can now edit text, images, and components right from your website without needing to go to the Framer interface. Turn on edit mode and select any element to update copy, an image, or component variants. This makes it easier for non-designers to update a website without having to learn how to use the designer interface.
Figma Release Notes
Last Thursday, Figma hosted a new release notes which included quite some new features that make working in Figma easier or more powerful.
Figma Draw
- Simplify vector: with a simple slider, you can reduce the amount of points on a vector path to simplify it while keeping as close as possible to the original.
- Offset vector: expand the outline of any vector with just a click.
Figma Design
- Use variables for grid gaps and padding.
- Content reflow: when rows or columns are removed in grids, the content will automatically reflow to the nearest column or row.
- Item swap: select multiple grid items and swap their positions.
- Keyboard canvas control: As part of Figma’s commitment to better accessibility, you can now control the canvas with keyboard only. Allowing you to design without a mouse. This update also includes screen reader support.
Dev Mode
- Figma MCP can now help you create rules on how to use its output, download assets, and see prompt suggestions on how to use the server with your design.
- Interactive inspection: you can preview variable modes and different screen sizes in Dev Mode’s Focus View.
Figma Sites
You can now use video fill to add background videos to your website.
Figma Buzz
- Default libraries can be used, so they are enabled by default for all Buzz Files.
- Video import and export: you can now import videos into your templates and export them again as videos.
